The Louisiana Society for Respiratory Care (LSRC) is seeking nominations for their annual Hospital of the Year Awards. The awards, which will be presented to a large hospital (over 200 beds) and a smaller hospital (less than 200 beds), honor best practices in the hospitals’ management and practices related to pulmonary disease and respiratory care. Pulmonary disease, which includes Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pneumonia and asthma, is a leading cause of death in the U.S. and represents a growing patient population in Louisiana hospitals. Respiratory-related illnesses are also a main cause of pediatric hospitalizations and school absences. The deadline for application submissions is Dec. 1, 2010, and the winners will be announced at the LSRC annual conference in Baton Rouge in late April 2011. For more information, contact LSRC President Raymond Pisani at (985) 380-4517 or LSRC Public Relations Chair Shantelle Graves at (225) 768-1786. (Ken Alexander,
